Savannah's Transportation System
Getting around in Savannah
The best way to get around Savannah is on foot or with The City of Savannah’s multi-modal transportation system.
They can transport downtown visitors by road, as well as rail, and by sea at no charge.
The Downtown Transportation (DOT) system are:
Savannah Belles Passenger Ferry:
These boats depart from Rousakis Plaza on River St.
And provide ferry service between River Street, Hutchinson Island, and the Waving Girl.
The ferries are reminiscent of vessels seen in the harbor a century ago.
Operating 7 days a week, from 7 am to 10 pm.
Pet Policy – Service animals, pets in carriers, and non-aggressive dogs on leashes are welcome on the Ferries.
Equally important is ADA Accessible.
Bicycles and strollers are welcome on board.
River Street Streetcar:
“Dottie” is a bio-diesel fueled Melbourne streetcar, lovingly restored in Savannah.
This 43-passenger car makes several stops along its roughly a mile-long track on River Street.
You may have noticed that Dottie – the River Street Streetcar – is not showing operating hours.
Early in 2016, the city had to make a tough decision to suspend the streetcar operation for the remainder of that year.
The planned construction on the West end of River Street was to soon interfere with the streetcar track and facility.
They also examined several alternatives but eventually concluded that a temporary service suspension was the only viable choice.
We all are looking forward to a time when we can announce that streetcar service on River Street will resume.
The dot Shuttle:
The dot Shuttle takes passengers to many of the cultural and historical points of interest downtown,
as well as to and from the city’s 5 public parking garages.
They are performing 20 stops around the Historic District. Furthermore, they also connect to municipal parking facilities, Visitor Centers, and Ferry Landings.
Free Wi-Fi, ADA-Accessible, Pet Policy – Only service animals.
Most importantly, It’s free of charge!
Use this FREE Transportation System to get around from any of our Vacation rentals. Lots of stops as well right around the corner!
