ShamROCKIN’ at Savannah’s Irish Pub Challenge
Created in Boston in 2009, the Irish Pub Challenge began as a promotional event held by Tenon Tours, a tour operator specializing in travel to Ireland. Five years later, it has become the Largest St. Patrick’s Day Themed Pub Crawl in the world, bringing over 4000 participants from all over the US to 31 of Boston’s pubs in 2013.
Savannah, Ga. has an Amazing St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Celebration, and with our new direct JetBlue Airlines Flight from BOS to SAV, is,a no Brainerd that The Hostess City with the Mostest would become the second destination to become a member of the Irish Pub Challenge Family! Get our your Green, The Shamrock Nation is coming to a Local Savannah Bar & Pub near you to host the Second Annual Savannah Irish Pub Challenge on February 28th from Noon – 8p, with after party and late night Tybee Shuttle!
This ain’t your Momma’s Pub Crawl
It’s also a CHALLENGE, meaning there is a Winner and a PRIZE so let’s see if we all learn together, shall we?
First Things First, Who’s participating?
There will be 8-f 10 Savannah Local Pubs & Bars who are Listed on the Challenge Route, each representing their own team. The teams will be competing. For a Championship Trophy along with local bragging rights but the REAL prize is given to the individual winner…A Tenan Tours Trip to Ireland for one !!
What is the Challenge?
The factor that makes The Irish Pub Challenge different from the ordinary Pub Crawls in Savannah is a little Scavenger Hunt Application by the name of Munzee.
Each pub on the route has a unique Munzee #Photobomb Opportunity that is each worth a certain amount of points within the application. There will also be special Bonus Munzee #Photobomb opportunities available at select locations throughout the historic district for a total of 20-30 point opportunity destinations. Contestants will use the Munzee Application from their Smartphone to upload the photos captured throughout the Challenge.
The #Photo bombs at the Competing Bars & Pubs will be worth more points, but every location that you shoot with your camera will help increase your total score and team points.. Scan the Munzee Code for each participating location and a menu will appear to list the drink specials available to you where you are standing
Now What? All you have to do is choose your favorite Partcipatin Savannah Irish Pub Challenge Bar or Pub and sign up to join their team! Head to your team pub at 12 Noon on Pub Challenge Day and get registered to receive points by the Irish Pub Challenge staff. Grab a beer and hang out until 1p when it’s time to switch spots. Move along your schedule based on the team you pick and you’ll stay with that team for the entire challenge.
Participants are encouraged to deck themselves in Green and dress up with as much Irish Bling as possible and take as many photos as possible. Get special points for posting to Instagram and Facebook and be on the lookout for Wyatt, the Irish Leprechaun, who will be one of many added #Photobomb opportunities. Take your turn though, he’s a busy guy.
Team standings will be a factor when determining the individual winner so don’t forget to support your home bar or pub because it’s a team effort for a reason!
