Canoe Through the Serene Marshes
If you feel like exploring Savannah a little further afield.
In a slightly more adventurous way.
We recommend a guided kayak trip on the Skidaway River with Savannah Canoe and Kayak.
Approximately 5 miles from downtown Savannah puts you in another historic region…that of Isle of Hope,
Wormsloe Plantation and the Sandfly community.
And above all in a much more natural setting.
Furthermore; soon after the founding of Savannah, the Isle of Hope settlement was established
as a ‘forward operating base’ on the edge of the debatable lands between the British Carolinas and Spanish Florida.
The kayaking begins at the salt marshes around the Skidaway Narrows.
A beautiful, but seldom seen side of Savannah.
We paddle a short stretch along the Inter coastal Waterway, before cutting into the narrow, rather curving forested creeks of Skidaway State Park.
Always a favorite on this trip is watching the many ospreys as they come and go from their nests.
In other words; Great birding, great scenery, and easy paddling make this an excellent alternative to Savannah’s urban exploration..
Welcome to the South!
In addition, before or after your kayak trip you may want to explore the following places…
Wormsloe Plantation, Pinpoint Heritage Museum, Skidaway State Park, and the Skidaway Marine Institute Aquarium.
Some of the best dining and live music can be found at the Driftaway Cafe in Sandfly.
