Pop Up Art Party – Jepson Center for the Arts

Savannah’s Jet Set Crowd of local Celebrities, Friends and Neighbors ‘Popped’ by the Jepson Center for the Arts on Thursday, April 9, 2015 to admire the Museum’s New Hot Pink Installation and catch a glimpse of the In Living Color Exhibit Featuring Andy Warhol’s Electric Chair while also celebrating the Launch of the new Travel and Adventure Issue of South Magazine.

Eager art enthusiasts arrived early at 6p for the Lecture given by the acclaimed artist behind Hot Pink, Anne Ferrer, while the more ‘Spirit’ driven crowd showed up in true Savannah style, just in time for the free Cocktails promptly at 7pm.

This event could hardly be considered an impromptu affair, with over 500 guests in attendance to ‘Shake their Groove Thang’ at the Studio 54 inspired evening. Wearable Inflatables, Divas in Drag and a little ‘Lip Service’ from the makeup mavens from Jules – More Than Makeup helped the Pop Up Art Party live up to its name with unexpected surprises around every turn. Guests were treated to an overflowing open bar of wine, beer and champagne which was complimented by the delicious tastings of Master Caterer, Roberto Leoci from the self-named and acclaimed Leocis Trattoria and the new Pacci Italian Kitchen & Bar at the Brice Hotel.

As with any Savannah Soiree, the real reason to RSVP is to see who else will make an appearance and this evening did not disappoint. Leading the list of notable names in attendance is new Savannah resident, Chuck Leavell and his wife of 41 years, Rose Lane. Although Chuck is best known for traveling the world as the talented pianist for the Rolling Stones, his most recent claim to fame may be for gracing the cover of the recent October/November issue of South magazine!

However, Mr. Leavell wasn’t the only Musical Talent to be found in the room, as the multitalented Roger Moss, Artistic Director of the Savannah Children’s Choir and International Man of Mystery, also stopped by to enjoy the festivities.

What Art Party would be complete with out the Team from Art Rise Savannah “popping by” to say hello hot off the heels of another award-winning Art March Savannah on April 3rd! Executive Director, Clinton Edminster gave us the scoop on his newest venture, Starlandia, a reclaimed art supply store located on Bull Street in the Savannah Starland Distirct.  Don’t you just LOVE the Name?? Say it with me again… StarLANDia!

WJCL Anchor, Jennifer Andrews was “working for us” as she arrived looking fresh and fab with gal pal Kristine Compton, Membership Director of Savannah Quarters Country Club while Globe Shoe Mogul, John Sussman and Diamond Expert, Craig Burgess, owner of A&C Gold and Diamonds could be found reminiscing about old times. Perhaps they were really teaming up to collaborate for an innovating new Diamond Studded, Gold Stiletto Shoe Design for Savannah Fashion Week?

Speaking of Fashion, King of Savannah Bling, Zia Sanchia, rounded out the evening with his ever-impressive presence and offered a spoiler (or two) about what we can expect to see at his first Solo Fashion Show and 10 Year Anniversary of ZiaBoutique at the Jepson on May 15th.
